Gujarati Raita Magic

Gujarati salad, also known as Gujarati raita, is a popular side dish originating from the state of Gujarat in western India

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yogurt (curd)
  • 1/2 cup chopped cucumber
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (coriander leaves)
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 small ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the yogurt, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and garam masala powder (if using).
  2. Add the chopped cucumber, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, green chilies, and ginger to the bowl.
  3. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Squeeze the lemon juice over the salad and mix again.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve chilled, garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
